DIFFUSION OF RUSSIAN BOLSHEVIK THOUGHTS IN N.W.F.P: A STUDY OF PEASANT MOVEMENT DURING EARLY 20TH CENTURY
Abstract
Rise of Bolshevism in Russia had far-reaching implications for neighbouring regions. One such case is
that of diffusion of Russian Bolshevik thoughts into North West Frontier Province (N.W.F.P), Pakistan,
and the subsequent emergence of peasant movement in 1938 at Ghaladher, Mardan, N.W.F.P. This
paper explores the causes of this successful diffusion of Bolshevik ideology as well as its transformation
in the changing context of historical and cultural condition of N.W.F.P. It is argued that peasant
uprising in Ghaladher was actually the outcome of the ideas diffused from former U.S.S.R. Qualitative
and descriptive research methods with emphasis on predominantly primary sources have been utilized
to substantiate the arguments.
