Abstract

Members of the Hazara community in Quetta, Pakistan, have migrated to various countries because of security concerns and economic opportunities abroad and have sent remittances back to their households. This research addresses the main research question of how households use remittances and their socio-economic impacts on households and communities in Quetta’s two localities, namely Mariabad and Hazara Town. Despite the growing importance of remittances to the community, no comprehensive research has been conducted in the area, creating a research gap. Therefore, this study fills the gap by exploring the socio-economic impacts of remittances on the community. The study employs a qualitative research method, utilizing purposive sampling and semi-structured interviews. The study uses the New Economic Labor Migration (NELM) theory. The study has both theoretical and practical implications. Theoretically, it expands knowledge in the field; practically, it helps community leaders, NGOs, and policymakers develop sustainable, long-term utilization patterns for socio-economic betterment.
